New Growth On Crepe Myrtle Trees Is Covered With Sticky Substance

Question From: Jacksonville, Florida, United States
Q: I just started getting my new growth on my crepe myrtle trees and I just noticed they are now are covered with something sticky. What is it and how can I treat it?

A: It's probably honey dew given off by aphids. Hose the tree down with a stuff stream of water to wash them and the honey dew off. Repeat every three days for a total of 4 baths and see if that doesn't take care of the problem, Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
