New Growth On Liriope Has White Tips

Question From: M. Buco - Potomac, Maryland, United States
Q: We always cut our liriope back in early-mid April. For the first time in 25 years the tips are emerging white! They are now up about one to three inches. Following the tips the rest is green. Why did this happen (I live in Maryland, and we had lots of snow and a very cold winter) and do I need to cut off all these tips? Thank you very much!

I don't have an answer for you Margaret. I live in Michigan and am not familiar with your growing conditions. I'm sure the anomaly is weather related. If you cut the tips off now they will remain chopped throughout the season. I'd pass them off as something special. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
