New Guinea Impatiens Have White Spots On Leaves

Question From: S. LEATHERMAN - Owosso, Michigan, United States
Q: MY NEW GUNEA IMPATIENS HAS WHITE SPOTS ON THE LEAVES . I HAVE BEEN WATERING IT EVERY NIGHT FROM THE BOTTOM & FERTILIZING IT EVERY 2 WEEKS

A: If the spots look like a powdery substance, your impatience have powdery mildew. If the spots are white and cotton-like you have mealy bug. The first is a fungal disease and can be taken care of by a product such as Serenade or Natria Disease Control. These are environmentally friendly products that are safe for use around children, pets and beneficial insects .. Natria Insecticidal soap spray will knock these suckers back. Once established they are hard to get rid of. Do not fertilize when the temperatures rise about 85. High salt index chemical fertilizers can burn the leaves. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
