New Guinea Impatiens Leaves Have Whitened

Question From: NEW YORK
Q: I planted my New Guinea impatiens about a week ago and the leaves have a bleached out look to them. What happened? It’s not spotty, but instead rather large patches.

A: My guess is you bought them from green house and they were never hardened off. The tender leaves can get wind and sunburned. I leave these plants on a covered porch for a few days and give them just a.few hours in the sun a day. Watering the leaves with chemical fertilizers will also burn the tender leaves. .
