New Ivy Growth Is Covered With Ants

Question From: CALIFORNIA
Q: Hi, my new ivy growth is covered in ants at each end point, there's a wet brown secretion at the ends too so not sure if they are attracted to it or are causing it as can't find any other pests there.

A: Ants are attracted by the honey dew aphids exude. Check the undersides of the leaves where they gather. Take samples in a plastic bag to an independent garden center for advice and a method of control you are willing to use. BTW the ants will not harm the plants. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
