Oakleaf Hydrangea Branches Are Very Fragile

Question From: M. Curry - KANSAS
Q: why are my ruby slippers oakleaf hydrangea branches so fragile? I would say brittle and break easily if one/pet passes by too closely.

A: The common problem is lack of water throughout the season. Hydrangeas thrive in soil that is kept moderately moist at all times and is not allowed to dry out. I would fertilize it with Holly Tone at the recommended rate this spring and mulch around it after the soil warms. Do keep it watered. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
