One Yew Tree Suddenly Turned Brown And Brown Color Rubs Off From Needles

Question From: Grove City, Ohio, United States
Q: I have a row of 6 Taxus Yews that are 4 years old. Only one of the shrubs have suddenly turned totally brown. If I rub my fingers over the needles a little of the brown may rub off. Whats going on?

My guess is your Yew has a form of rust disease. Take samples to your local garden center for an accurate ID and form of control. In the meantime do keep the shrubs watered if it does not rain. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
