Oriental Poppies Are Flat On Ground In Hot Weather

Question From: K. Pietras - Paonia, Colorado, United States
Q: My oriental poppies were beautifully green and with buds. When I went out this afternoon, both plants were flat on the ground. It is ninety degrees, and I water them frequently. They are in a raised bed with pansies.

A: Poppies are cool season plants. My guess is a sudden rise in heat with hot sun did them in. I think that's a side effect of global warming. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
