Ornamental Cherry Tree Leaves Are Curling And Bark Split Near Ground Line

Question From: J. Muzzy - Culpeper, Virginia, United States
Q: I have an ornamental cherry tree thats leaves are pretty much all curling and it doesn't look very healthy. Not many leaves are falling off however. I did notice a split in the bark on the south side of the tree right at the ground line. Any thoughts? I would like to have to looked at by a professional but I can't find anyone that serves our area. Thanks for your help.

Jeff, Bark splitting was very common this winter. Leaf curl can be caused by disease or insects and the treatment is not the same for both. I agree you should have it looked at by a professional, a certified arborist - you can use this link: http://www.isa-arbor.com/faca/findArborist.aspx or search google for help. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
