Outdoor Potted Plants Get Brown Leaves Within Weeks Of Planting

Question From: R. Lustig - Orlando, Florida, United States
Q: Many of my outdoor potted plants on the balcony get brown leaves within weeks of planting and the soil is organic, use liquid fertilizer with bloom booster, mid # is 55. Live in Orlando. Have south exposure so little direct sun more in winter months. What's happening?

A: You may be burning your plants by over fertilizing. Your fertilizer is high in salts. I'd back off and water with clear water for a couple of weeks. From then on I would fertilize every two weeks with fertilizer at half strength. Never water when the soil is dry or when the sun is out. Do not fertilize when the temperatures reach 85 degrees or higher. Good Luck, Nancy
