Question From: Girard, Ohio, United States
Q: My beautiful pachysandra bed has taken a harsh hit this winter. There are a lot of brown leaves /stems, much worse along the edges. I'm certain it is not spores because I have someone treat it yearly since I did have a problem some years back. I have no idea what to do. It covers quite a large area in the front of my house. I really would hate to lose it. Can it be cut? Should it be fertilized? Seems like conflicting info as I check on line for an answer. I would appreciate any advice you could lend.
A: Some folks mow their beds in spring to get rid of tatty leaves. I would cut away the dead foiiage and fertilize with a good quality compost and liquid fertilizer such as a fish and kelp blend of liquid. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
