Parts Of Monrovia Dwarf Golden Arborvitae Are Dying

Question From: m. haynie - OREGON
Q: Our monrovia dwarf golden arborvitae are 5 years old. The image that i sent shows parts of it dying. This started at the end of last year and is getting worse and they all have it now. We have a row of them along one side of our lawn. I havent tried anything on them because i dont kow what to do. could you please help me?

A:

Lack of water would be my first guess. If the plants were dry going into winter they suffered additional wind burn in winter. Depending on the soil type these shrubs need an inch to an inch and a half of water a week. Invest in a soaker hose and a rain gauge to keep track of the rainfall. Mulch the Arbs with 3 to 4 inches of pine bark or tub ground yard waste and sprinkle Espoma Plant Tone on the surface of the Mulch. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
