Pear Leaves And Fruit Are Sticky And Wet

Question From: IDAHO
Q: Pear tree grew fine throughout spring and summer, abundant pears. Late August and now Sept 1st leaves are sticky to the point of drippy. Pears look fine, but just beginning to ripen and a few to drop. Some of the fruit is also sticky and wet, not all.

A: THe sticky stuff is honeydew given off by aphids or scale. Wash the fruit well before eating. Contact a certified arborist for an accurate ID and control. To find one in your area go to tcia.org and enter your zip code. Best Nancy and Happy Yardeing
