Peony Bush Is Producing Two Distinct Types Of Flowers This Year

Question From: M. Kozek - MICHIGAN
Q: We have had a peony bush near our front door for several years, always healthy with beautiful flowers this time of year. For some reason, this year it seems to have two distinct types of flowers. Same color, but very different in shape and form. One is a typical peony blossom, and one looks more like a dahlia. I tried Google for an answer, but was unable to find anything. We have done nothing different this year than we have in the past. Any explanation?

My guess is the buds were damaged by the unseasonably cold weather this spring. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
