Pine Tree Has White Powder On Needles Which Then Turn Black

Question From: K. Clark - CALIFORNIA
Q: I have a pine tree that has developed a white powder on the needles - that eventually turns them black. It seems to be spreading to neighboring tree. What is this? Anything I can do other than cut it down?

Kristen, get an onsite inspection or a phone consultation from a certified arborist, a trained tree doctor.
Best and Happy Yardening, Nancy.
