Pine Trees Are Dropping Larger Clusters Of Needles Than Ever Before

Question From: Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, United States
Q: My pine tree drops needles every fall, so that I understand to be quite normal, however this fall and through the winter it has continued to drop 3 inch segments of needle clusters including the branch that the needles are attached to. There are probably 100 needles on each segment. This has never happened before. If you need a picture to better explain my concern, I can certainly accommodate. I live in Wisconsin Dells, WI. I have several varieties of pine trees in my yard, this particular one is probably a one inch needle that has a sweeping effect - very majestic. Its a large tree and quite beautiful. I've lived here for over 15 years, and imagine the tree to be quite a bit older. Thank you for your kind reply.

There are many new diseases and insects that are attacking evergreens and drought has only added to the problems. If it were my tree I would have it looked at by a certified arborist. To find one in your go to www.tcia.org. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
