Q: PLANTED CUKES AND HAVE 2 STALKES PER PLANT. ONE STALK WILTS THE OTHER IS FINE. tHIS CONSISTENTLY HAPPENS TO THEM ALL. wE HAVE REPLACED THE CUKES FROM OTHER CROPS AND STILL GET THE SAME RESULTS. tHIS IS THE FIRST TIME EVER IN MANY MANY YEARS THAT WE HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED THIS. pLEASE HELP
A: The striped cucumber beetle may be infecting cucumber vines with a disease. Cut away the infected stem and hope the leftovers make it. Covering the vines with a floating row cover after planting will keep the beetles at bay. The floating row covers must be removed when the plants flower so the bees can pollinate the flowers.
