Potted Geranium Blooms Are Very Small And Buds Do Not Open At The Same Time

Question From: Bartlesville, Oklahoma, United States
Q: My geraniums are blooming profusely, but the blooms are very small and not all the buds open at the same time on individual blooms. Could I possibly have too many in one pot. I have planted 3 in each 12 x 12 pot.

It depends on the size of the plant. Zonal geraniums get quite large so two would be max in a 12 - inch pot. Too much fertilizer might also be an issue. Also use a bloom formula, such as Jack's Classic. Dead heading spent blooms will also help. And be sure your pots don't dry out. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
