Powdery Mildew Treatment For Squash Plant Leaves

Question From: H. Lanin - Portland, Oregon, United States
Q: powdery mildew treatment for squash plant leaves? My plants were great and I listened to a neighbor who said they cannot get enough water so watered a bit more, now there is powdery mildew. Too late for Actinovate, is there a way to save the situation? They are busy making alot of squash and would be sad if they failed due to disease.

A: Actinovate will control powdery mildew once it attacks. Another option is Bonides Sulfur. Treat weekly and be sure to get the undersides of the leaves. Milk at a rate of 1 part milk to 9 parts water used prior to infection is used by growers in other countries. Remove badly infected leaves and clean pruners after use. I use alcohol at 1 part alcohol to 10 parts water. Good Luck and thanks for visiting Yardener.com. Nancy
