Pussy Willow Is Not Growing After Being Cut Back

Question From: Paxton, Massachusetts, United States
Q: one of my 3 pussy willows is stunted...all 3 were cut back in Spring so as not to develop in tree form...2 have re-spouted and are groeing well...one sprouted 1 to 2 inches with buds leaves, then stopped developing...stunted......leave a yellowish, no damage to trunk, no holes dug by varmints . I just sits doing nothing...no additional growth like the others. Thanks, Ron

A: Sometimes a heavy haircut does a tree or shrub in. They have not stored enough carbs to regenerate new growth. A heavy dose of fertilizer will further stress the plant. Keep it well watered and hope for the best. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
