Rabbits Foot Fern Drips Sticky Substance That Attracts Ants

Question From: B. Rencher - NEW JERSEY
Q: I have a very old rabbits foot fern that has suddenly started putting off a sticky substance on the fronds, that drips onto the floor underneath. About the same time I noticed little black ants climbing on the stems and around on the top of the plant. I put ant traps in the plant about 2 months ago but the ants continue. Ever heard of these problems?

Your fern probably has aphid that produce the sweet sticky substance that attracts the ants. I use AzaMax spray. It's non-toxic and safe for kids and cats. Be sure to spray the bottom of the leaves. Give the plant a shower to clean off the gunk. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
