Question From: MICHIGAN
Q: Although we watered every other day during the extraordinary hot summer days this year, our raspberry plants withered very badly and approx 40% of the patch has died. I had a 30' row of red and a 30' row of yellow. Trying to determine if the extreme heat did them in this year and they should recover next year or if we have a root fungus that I should rototill the crop under and replant again next spring. Is there a way to determine if you have a root fungus
A:
You may well have a fungal disease in your patch. Contact your local MSU extension horticulture agent for advice about having the plants tested at a lab. Diseased plants should be removed immediately as they will infect the soil. Tilling will only spread the spores. Best Nancy
