Question From: P. Williams - Greenbelt, Maryland, United States
Q: I planted two flats of Marigolds two weeks ago in a sunny area. I mixed Miracle Grow Garden soil in with the soil in my flower bed. Last year, Marigolds grew beautifully in this area. This year, however, the plants are not growing, and the flowers are shriveling up. We've had more than a week of intermittent rain storms here in Maryland. Can the excess rain be affecting the plants? Any suggestions or solutions?
A: It's not the rain. If you added additional fertlizer, the plants may have suffered fertilizer burn. Miracle Gro contains salt based fertilizer that can burn plant roots if overused. If the liquid is used in the heat of the day, it too can burn the plants. The would be my guess. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
