Recommendation For Drainage And Plants For Brick Planter Attached To House

Question From: K. Konopka - MICHIGAN
Q: Recommendations for drainage of a brick planter that is part of the exterior design of mid-century'ish 1955 ranch home with western exposure? Appropriate plants and/or flowers? I love being outside, but am no master gardener!

A: I'm no bricklayer. so I can't help you on that one. If the walls and floor in the basement show no water damage I assume it's okay. If not you need to call in a professional. Western exposure is usually a part sun situation. 50s ranches may have deep overhangs that cut down on the sun. Do a google search for plants that do well in a western exposure.
