Question From: Altadena, California, United States
Q: I have a red fairyduster (Calliandra californica) whose leaves are starting to turn orange and then brown. The plant is well established, has gotten plenty of water - possibly more than it wants, (we have had a lot of rain). The weather has been fluctuating, daytime highs shifting from low 60's to low 90's in the course of 1-2 weeks with a fairly consistant mid- high 50's at night. I am located in Altadena California which is within the Los Angeles basin.

A: Paula, I live in Michigan and gardening in CA is like gardening on another planet. I would take your photos and possibly some samples to a good independent garden center that sells these plants, for an accurate ID and recommendation for control. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
