Red Hot Poker Plants Are Not Blooming

Question From: J. Rekuc - Rockwood, Michigan, United States
Q: Hi, I grew 5 red hot poker( Kniphofia uvaria) plants in full sun. They grew very good like a grass plant but did not have any flowers. Do you know why and what is there bloom time? Thank You

John, There are a couple of reasons plants don't flower. Not enough sun is one but we can count that out. Too much fertilizer can also impede flowering. A bit of compost is all they need. Too much water may also be an issue. Lastly, they flower in their second season so if the plants were small you have a show coming. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
