Red Ruffle Azaleas Have Dropped Their Leaves And Turned Brown

Question From: R. Collins - Anthony, Florida, United States
Q: My red ruffle azaleas located near my outdoor fountain have dropped their leaves and turned brown . What could be wrong?

Lack of water and/or too much sun. They are understory plants and should be planted in a shady spot. Also the soil may be very alkaline and they are acid loving plants. Have your soil tested. Last but not least, the variety may not be conducive to Florida conditions. Plants bought in florist shops, grocery stores or big boxes like Costco may not be hardy to your outdoor conditions.
