Question From: m. stohler - Anderson, Indiana, United States
Q: I have a redspire pear about 10 yrs. old and the bark has split badly - besides wrapping it during the winter, should the crack be treated? It is about 1/2 in wide and loose along the edges.
A: It is no longer recommended that paint or other compounds be use on these wounds. It delays healing and can cause rot. Keeping the tree well watered is the best Rx. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
