Remove Aphids Without Killing Caterpillars

Question From: V. Tiemann - TEXAS
Q: Should I use Bayer Advanced tree and shrub protect and feed on my milkweed plants? Will it kill my monarch caterpillars? I have a terrible aphid infestation and I am looking for a way to get rid of them without harming the caterpillars. I have tried spraying them frequently, with the water hose and soapy water but they continue to come back. Thank you.

A: Do not use this product on any plant where butterfly caterpillars feed as it will kill them. To find "safe" options and research products go to the The Blue Monarch website http://www.bluemonarchproject.com/less-toxic-pest-solutions.html. Steve Bender of Southern Living magazine, suggests if caterpillars are present, carefully pick them off and park them in a safe place like a box or bucket out of the sun, Spray the plant and allow at the product to dry and then replace the caterpillars on the plant.
