River Birch Tree Has Patches Of Rusty Looking Leaves

Question From: A. Bari - Aiken, South Carolina, United States
Q: Young River Birch has a few small spots where the leaves look rusty. Any ideas?

It's probably birch rust. A few spots are no big deal. If it spreads, the best time to spray it is in spring just after it has leafed out. Do make sure to keep it watered if it doesn't rain. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy

Comment: Nancy: Thanx for your response. What do I spray the Birch with for rust? Angela Bari

Angela - next spring go to the independent garden center in your area and talk to the manager of the pesticide department. There are several options - chemical and organic. You need to be educated about the options, what's available in your state and what would work for you . Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
