Rosemary Bush Has Wet Milky Froamy Substance All Over

Question From: T. Velasquez - California, United States
Q: We have a grown, large rosemary bush in our garden. I just noticed that there is a "wet, milky, frothy type substance" all over the bush, even under it. What could this be, and is this poisonous???

Your rosemary has spit bugs. The "spit" protects them from predators. Hose off the plants with a strong stream of water. If you want to harvest it within a few days, soak the branches in water. Not to worry, there is nothing poisonous. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
