Rosemary Has Bumps And Is It Safe To Eat

Question From: M. Evans - Kensington, Maryland, United States
Q: I assume that when the rosemary herb gets those little bumps on the leaves one should not eat it or harvest it (dry to use later)?

A: I assume your Rosemary has scale. They are bugs that produce a protective covering. Cooking will kill them but I don't recommend eating infested herbs. If the scale is wide spread, it's best to throw it out and buy a new one. If there are just a few treat it with insecticidal soap. Repeat every few days for a couple of weeks. These guys are hard to get rid of. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
