Rubber Tree Branches Are Long And Stringy When And How Should It Be Pruned

Question From: N. Fox - Madison, Wisconsin, United States
Q: I have a rubber tree that has gotten long and stringy branches. When is a good time to prune it and how much should I prune it? It is 11 years old. Thank you.

Best time to prune it is in early spring - Don't take more then 1/2 to 1/3 of the plant off in a year. I go by the 1/3 rule. Cut just above a node. You can try to root the tips of the cuttings. Water it well a couple of days before surgery. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
