Question From: Thorhild, Alberta, Canada
Q: Our scotch pines are turning yellow from the centre. We put wood shavings around the base to help with water retention as it has been so dry here in Thorhild. Could putting the shavings around the tree be causing it or because they are in shock due no moisture? any help you can give us would be appreciated.
A: The wood shavings are not the issue. Lack of water could. It often takes two years for evergreen to react to drought. However there are several diseases that are attacking Scots Pines. I suggest your get your trees inspected by a certified arborist. To find one in your area go to www.tcia.org.com and enter your zip code. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
