Seemingly Healthy Spirea Turn Completely Brown By August

Question From: b. loughlin - MASSACHUSETTS
Q: Two large spireas foliage great and blooms well in June, Light pruning after blooms are gone. Watered once a week and soil is pretty good. By every aug both turn completely brown. No obvious disease or pests. Thinking about tossing them out. BTY there are two little princess spireas next to them and they are fabulous each year.

A: Sounds like a water issue. Try increasing and deeper watering of shrubs twice a week when the temps go above 85 degrees. Do not fertilize. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
