Should Cotoneaster Shrubs Be Kept In Pots Until Fall Or Planted During Summer

Question From: PENNSYLVANIA
Q: I purchased 3 potted Willowleaf Cotoneaster plants from a local nursery. I was going to plant them soon but read it is best to plant in the fall. Should I leave them in the pots until Autumn?

A: Keeping potted shrubs watered during the summer is difficult. I would plant them now. Again water is the big issue. If it doesn't rain, water them daily for 10 days. Then water them twice a week. The soil around the rootball must be kept moist at all times, but not soggy, Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
