Should Crabapple Tree Branch Cuts Be Sealed Or Treated

Question From: T. Whittaker - Toledo, Ohio, United States
Q: I have a large crabapple tree (at least 30 feet tall). When I cut off some of the larger branches do I need to cover the wounds? It does have black spot. It has been a very healthy tree. I get bushels and bushels of crab apples the size of a quarter. We like the tree.

A: Do not paint the wounds. Paint slows the healing process and promotes rot. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
