Should I Remove Arborvitae Branches That Have Turned Black From Dog Urine

Question From: M. Gregersen - Rexburg, Idaho, United States
Q: I have two very small arbor vitae trees and about half way up both trees the branches have turned black from dog urine through the winter. Can I trim these branches off and have them grow back? Or will they eventually green up on their own?

A: I recommend you wait to see if and where there is live wood before pruning. Removed or bare branches will not regenerate. Best Nancy
