Should I Replace Larch Tree That Turned Black And Died With Another Larch Tree

Question From: J. Beck - Wheaton, Illinois, United States
Q: I have a larch that turned black and died. What would cause this problem? I would like to get another larch but only if I can prevent the same problem.

Your larch was probably killed by a disease. They are very prone to illness when stressed and drought and a severe winter will do it. I would think about replacing it with something else. Checkout out this website for the Chicago Botanic Garden for suggestions. http://www.chicagobotanic.org/plantcollections/index.php#plantfinder. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
