Should Oak Leaves And Acorns Be Removed From English Ivy Bed

Question From: Seguin, Texas, United States
Q: We have lots of oak leaves and acorns falling in our English ivy bed. Do they need to be removed?

A: Not to worry. They will decompose into compost that will in turn provide nutrients for the Ivy. If they look unsightly, blow out the leaves, shred them and dump them back in the beds. I use a broom to sweep them in below the leaves. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
