Should Peony Plant That Finished Blooming And Has Triangle Pods Be Deadheaded

Question From: A. Coursey - TENNESSEE
Q: I have a peony plant at my new house. It finished blooming and as I went to deadhead them, one of the flower stems had 3 triangle pods on it. Is this normal and should I cut it off or leave it?

A: Those pods are seed heads. Remove them to allow the energy to go to the plant. Next spring cut off the blooms when they fade. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
