Should Pruning Wounds Be Sealed On European Beech Tree

Question From: MICHIGAN
Q: We have to prune lower branches of our European Beech in the spring. Is there an insecticide to apply to the open wounds?

A: Research proves sealing wounds does more harm than good. It retards healing and can cause rot. The only exception is white and red oak trees. Wounds should be sealed immediately and latex paint works perfectly. Bottom line, do not treat the wounds. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
