Question From: Baileyville, Kansas, United States
Q: I planted a new spruce bush this spring and in July , I noticed some pinkish colored needles on it. i began to water it more thoroughly, but it still has some of the colored needles on it at the end of Sept. If it is infected with bugs , what kind of spray should I use on it? thanks. Georgina
A: The pink needles in July and August are symptoms of rust. Take a cutting in to your local garden center of a conclusive ID. You need to treat it with a fungicide labled for rust on Spruce trees. If the infection is extensive it could kill the tree. Early intervention is always best. Good Luck Nancy.
