Stems Below Buds Are Splitting On Chrysanthemums

Q: please help, I have some chrysanthemums and about 4cm,s under the bud the stem has started to split can you tell me what I have done wrong please.

A: It may be a bacterial or fungal disease called stem rot. There are several that attack chrysanthemums. It's often caused from over-watering and poor drainage. Check with your local garden center for available products to treat it.
