Surface Mold On Ground Around Swiss Chard Plants

Question From: D. Rice - Chula Vista, California, United States
Q: yellow fungus growing on ground around swiss chard?

A: Surface mold is rarely harmful to the plants. It's not uncommon in houseplants. A yellow slimy mold, commonly called slime mold will sometimes grow in mulch or turf. Chemicals don't do much. Best to remove it by carefully scraping away the top inch of soil. Overly wet soil filled with chuncy bark bits is a perfect medium for their growth. You might also remove a sample and take it a garden center that grows plants. They may be able to help you. Best Nancy Happy Yardening.
