Sycamore Has Wilted Leaves And Losing Bark After Pruning Of Roots

Question From: S. Pinto - Atlantic Beach, Florida, United States
Q: We cut several small roots and then took down a much larger one, all pretty much on one side of a medium large sycamore tree in our backyard (North Florida) when building a backyard deck about two months ago. The tree now seems a bit stressed. The leaves appeared slightly wilted to me, then the tree started losing large pieces of bark about midway up the trunk. Is there anything I can do to help strengthen it? Fertilizer? Pruning? Or just let it be?

A: Be sure to keep it well watered. I would have an onsite inspection from a tree doctor, a certified arborist. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy.
