Teddy Bear Magnolia Leaves Are Turning Black Around Edges

Question From: Cannon Hill, Queensland, Australia
Q: My teddy bear magnolia is approx 4mtrs tall. Newly planted in a planter box, the leaves have started to get a black rim at the outer of the leaf. We have had leaves dropping too. It didnt flower, but we did plant it in winter. We have given it seasoll and mulched. Some othe the leaves too are looking burnt. It does get the afternoon sun, but thought that was ok? Please help! It cost us $1000 so I really do want to keep it healthy! Thanks

Living in the US in zone 5 where this tree would not be hardy, any guess I would make would be just that. If it were my tree I would take a sample of the damaged leaf and pictures to the garden center or nursery where you bought the plant for an accurate identification of the problem. Best Nancy
