Tomatoes Remain Green And Do Not Turn Red

Question From: K. Porter - Canton, Michigan, United States
Q: This summer, I have been growing tomatoes that were planted in early May. Since late June/early July the plants have been producing tomatoes. However, they have all remained green and none of them have turned red. Why might this be? Thank you

A: Excessive heat and lack of water. When the temperatures reach into the 90s plants shut down in order to conserve moisture. Same thing happened last year. When the temperatures begin to cool down the tomatoes will ripen. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
