Question From: Lake Dallas, Texas, United States
Q: Nancy - please help. have 40 lush fruit (around egg size) bearing tomato plants and every day finding 2 or 3 tomatoes with holes near the stem. Some of these holes look as if they had been caused by a 1/2" drill bit they are so perfectly formed. Do not have any foliage damage and have not found any horn worms. Cannot find any pests inside the holes. Any ideas as to the cause and remedy? Thanks
A: My guess would be slugs. They feed at night so you won't find them. After dark go hunting with a flashlight. Horn worms eat leaves. I'd hunt for them at night and use an iron phosphate product such as Slug Magic or Sluggo. Some say coffee grounds work, but I have not tried them. Good Luck, Nancy
