Transplanted Marigold Flower Buds Are Dying Before Blooming

Question From: Z. Alamgir - York, Pennsylvania, United States
Q: I planted marigolds 2 weeks ago. In some of the plants the flower buds are dying before even the flower blooms. I guess its not a bug because most of the flower buds are normal.Any suggesstion.

Marigolds are warm weather, sun lovers and prone to disease in cold damp weather. They grow best in leaner soil and they resent over- fertilizing. I think you were pushing the envelope when you planted these pretties two weeks ago and they are talking back to you. I'd cut off all the damaged buds and hope they forgive you. Best And Happy Yardening, Nancy
